The aim of the Symposium is to discuss recent theoretical and experimental developments of hadron and nuclear physics. The Symposium is hosted by the Tanashi Branch of the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK Tanashi). Below please find informations about the Symposium, a registration form as well as a hotel reservation form. THE DEADLINE FOR BOTH THE REGISTRATION AND THE HOTEL RESERVATION IS OCTOBER 1, 1998. The hotel reservation for hotel Juraku should be sent directly to the office of Kinki Nihon Tourist at the address given on the reservation form. THE DEADLINE FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO PARALLEL AND POSTER SESSIONS IS AUGUST 31, 1998. The contributions including the title, authors, and a short abstract (within one page) should be sent by e-mail or ordinary mail to O. Morimatsu at the address below. Please send inquiries concerning this Symposium to: Osamu Morimatsu High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) Tanashi Branch 3-2-1 Midori-cho Tanashi, Tokyo 188-0002, Japan e-mail: osamu.morimatsu__AT__kek.jp Tel: +81-424-69-9534 Fax: +81-424-62-0763 This circular will be distributed also by ordinary mail, including maps of the Hongo Campus and the Hotel Juraku. The final circular will be distributed in November, 1998. THE SYMPOSIUM HOME PAGE IS AVAILABLE AT http://www.tanashi.kek.jp/sympo98/. We are looking forward to seeing you at the Symposium. Sincerely yours The organizing committee 1. DATES AND SITE OF THE SYMPOSIUM DATES: December 14(Mon.) - 17(Thu.), 1998 PLACE: Sanjo Conference Hall on the Hongo Campus, Univ. of Tokyo 7-3-1 Hongo, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo 113-0033 The Sanjo Conference Hall is located inside the Hongo Campus of the University of Tokyo, and can be reached conveniently by bus or subway. Maps of the Hongo Campus and the train stations near by will be distributed by ordinary mail, and are also available on the Symposium home page (http://www.tanashi.kek.jp/sympo98/). If you come from the Hotel `Juraku' in Ochanomizu, you can take a bus from Ochanomizu to `Todai Konai'. The bus stop is on the bridge near the Hijiribashi exit of the JR (Japanese Railway) Ochanomizu station. Leave the bus at the last stop, which is located inside the Hongo Campus (near entry 48 on the map ), from where you can easily find the Sanjo Conference Hall (entry 64). Another possibility is to go by the subway `Marunouchi line' from Ochanomizu to Hongo-Sanchome (right bottom on the map). From there you walk via the Main Gate (entry 54) to the Sanjo Conference Hall (entry 64). The walk takes about 15 min. If you wish to reach the Sanjo Conference Hall directly after your arrival at Narita International Airport, you should take the Keisei line `Skyliner' from the airport to the terminal `Ueno'. (The price of the ticket is 1,920 Japanese Yen, and the ride takes about 60 min.) >From there the Hongo campus is within walking distance (20 min), but if you are not familiar with the surroundings of the campus you are advised to take a taxi, showing the location of the Sanjo Conference Hall on the map (entry 64) to the taxi driver. The fare for the taxi is below 1,000 Japanese Yen. Some helpful telephone numbers are 03-3812-2111 (University of Tokyo), ext. 4122 or 4187 (Nuclear Theory group). 2. HOTEL INFORMATION Accommodations during the Symposium are available at the Hotel `Juraku' located near the Ochanomizu railway station. The discount rate per night, including breakfast and service charges, is 10,000 (17,000) Japanese Yen plus 5% tax for a single (twin) room. (Upon request one can also choose `without breakfast'.) Please send the attached reservation form directly to the Kinki Nihon Tourist office at the address indicated on the form. THE DEADLINE FOR THE HOTEL RESERVATION IS OCTOBER 1, 1998. The location and address of the hotel `Juraku' is indicated on the map which will be distributed by ordinary mail and which is also available on the Symposium home page (http://www.tanashi.kek.jp/sympo98/). After arrival at Narita International Airport, use the JR line `Narita Express' and get off at the station `Tokyo'. (The price of the ticket is 2,940 Japanese Yen, and the ride takes about 70 min.) In Tokyo, change to the JR `Chuo line' (orange trains) and get off at the station `Ochanomizu'. (The Tokyo station is the terminal of the Chuo line, so the trains run only in one direction. Ochanomizu is the second station from Tokyo.) In Ochanomizu, leave the station through the Hijiribashi exit, and follow the map. A somewhat less expensive way to come to Ochanomizu, which however involves one more train change, is to use the Keisei line `Skyliner' from Narita International Airport, and get off at `Nippori'. (The price of the ticket is 1,920 Japanese Yen, and the ride takes about 60 min.) In Nippori, change to the JR `Yamanote line' (direction Tokyo) and get off at the fourth station `Akihabara'. There change to the Sobu-Chuo line (yellow trains) and get off at the next station `Ochanomizu'. A third, somewhat more expensive way is to use the Keisei line `Skyliner' from Narita International Airport to the terminal `Ueno'. (The price of the ticket is 1,920 Japanese Yen, and the ride takes about 60 min.) From there take a taxi to the Hotel Juraku, showing the map of the hotel to the taxi driver. The fare for the taxi is about 2,000 Japanese Yen. Those who are members of `Shigaku Kyosai' or `Monbusho Kyosai' might be interested in the hotel `Garden Palace' which is also located near the Ochanomizu station. The rate for members per night, without breakfast and including service charges, is 7,260 (13,420) Japanese Yen plus 5% tax for a single (twin) room. The corresponding rate for non-members is 9,680 (18,260) Japanese Yen plus 5% tax for a single (twin) room. The applications for the Hotel Garden Palace should be sent to O. Morimatsu at the address given on p.1 of this circular. 4. REGISTRATION AND PROCEEDINGS To participate in the Symposium, please fill in the attached registration form.
