Abstract

I will argue that, in the context of superstring theory, the usual
assumption of the big bang as the beginning of time should be
naturally replaced by a postulate of "asymptotic past triviality". I will
then show　how a chaotic version of collapse/inflation naturally emerges
from these new　initial conditions in the Einstein/String-frame
metric,respectively.
Collapsing/inflating bubbles with suitable characteristics can give rise to
Universes like our own. I will finally describe the most interesting relics
that a pre-bangian phase could have left for present or near-future
observations.
