The KEK Topical Conference is a series of conferences held at KEK every few years. The purpose of this year's conference is to present the most recent results of various experiments in the area of flavor physics and discuss theoretical issues and future experimental prospects. Since the last KEK Topical Conference on Flavor Physics in 1996, there have been many new experimental results and activities around the world. In particular, the Belle experiment at the KEKB accelerator is producing new results on B-meson decays and CP violation, and K2K, the long-baseline neutrino-oscillation experiment using the KEK 12GeV-PS accelerator and the Super-Kamiokande detector, is collecting information on neutrino mass and flavor mixing in the lepton sector. The High-Intensity Proton Accelerator Facility, which was recently approved, promises a bright future in kaon, muon, and neutrino physics. All of these topics will be discussed in the conference by distinguished experimentalists and theorists invited from around the world. We hope that the conference will further stimulate worldwide activities in flavor physics and develop new frontiers in this field.
