Announcement of KEK Workshop on Nuclear Chiral Dynamics

This is the first circular on the KEK Workshop on Nuclear Chiral Dynamics
scheduled in March, 2004. We, the organizers, encourage you to participate
the workshop, which we hope to cover wide variety of low energy
nuclear/hadron dynamics.

Dates: March, 18 - 20, 2004
Place: KEK, Tsukuba
Host: Institute for Particle and Nuclear Sciences (IPNS), KEK

Deadlines: Submit the registration form attached at the end of this circular
before December 31, 2003

Purpose:
Low energy effective theories of QCD, mostly based on chiral symmetry,
gives a fairy good description of the meson-baryon dynamics. They have been
applied to the mesonic reactions as well as processes involving a single
baryon and have shown their validity in various phenomena. Application of
such effective theories to multi-nucleon systems and finite
temperature/density nuclear medium is one of the central topics of the
nuclear and hadron physics. Recent new development in baryon spectroscopy,
among which we count the discovery of the pentaquark baryon, also enhances
studies of hadron spectroscopy from the chiral symmetry viewpoint.
In the workshop, we plan to have the leading physicists in Japan and
abroad in these research areas and seek the future directions of these
subjects.
