ユトレヒト大学　Gerard 't Hooft 教授
講演概要：（講演は英語ですが、日本語のスライドの同時上映を行います。）
Some 40 years ago, theoretical physicists found a new description of
the world of sub-atomic particles that could be used to calculate behavior
very precisely. This description, which was refined over the years, was
called the "Standart Model". It had to assume the existence of a very special
sub-atomic particle that eluded direct observations for a long time: the Higgs particle.
Only recently, in 2012, a particle was detected that closely matches the characteristics
of the Higgs particle. In the lecture, it is explained why this particle was so important
and so special. What does it have to do with mass, and with spin?
