This conference aims to survey the recent achievements and exchange expertise and progress in this interdisciplinary field, and it promotes mutual understanding and collaboration over the fields fundamental to solve a range of open questions, from the origin of the elements to stellar, galactic and cosmic evolution. NIC series of symposia are regarded as one of the relevant international conferences in nuclear physics and astrophysics. In the previous NIC-XIII Symposium held in July 2014 at Debrecen, Hungary, International Advisory Committee decided that the next meeting (NIC-XIV 2016) is to be hosted jointly by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) and RIKEN Nishina Center. The subjects to be discussed in NIC-XIV 2016 Symposium will include: ・ Big-Bang Cosmology, Nucleosynthesis, Dark Matter, and Dark Energy ・ First Generations of Stars and Galactic Chemo-Dynamical Evolution ・ Stellar Evolution and Hydrostatic Nuclear Burning Processes ・ Explosive Nucleosynthesis in Stars ・ Supernovae, Gamma-Ray Bursts and Mergers ・ Novae and X-Ray Bursts ・ Neutron Stars and Hadron Physics ・ Meteoritic Abundances, Interstellar Gas and Dust Astronomy ・ X- and γ-Ray Astronomy and Cosmic Ray Astrophysics ・ Neutrino Astrophysics and Weak Processes ・ Radioactive Nuclei Far From Stability ・ Nuclear Theory in Astrophysics ・ Nuclear Experiments in Astrophysics ・ Nuclear Data and Astrophysics ・ New Facilities in Nuclear Astrophysics and Astronomy The symposium will take place at the Main Hall at Toki Messe, Niigata Convention Center, which is located at the mouth of Shinano-river, in the heart of Niigata City. A NIC School will be held at Niigata University prior to the symposium for graduate students and young postdocs. Nuclei in the Cosmos is the foremost bi-annual symposium of nuclear physics, astrophysics, astronomy, cosmo-chemistry, and other related fields that started from Wien in Austria in 1990. NIC-XIV http://nic2016.jp/ is jointly organized by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) and the RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science. It is sponsored by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP), and supported by several institutions. On-line abstract submission starts from December 16, 2015. Important dates are listed at the end of this circular. Tentative list of invited speakers is on the following web page: http://nic2016.jp/program/#speakers Special lecture by Prof. Takaaki Kajita who is the Nobel Prize Laureate in Physics of 2015 is planned on the first day (June 20, 2016). NIC-XIV starts from June 19, 2016 with a welcome reception, followed by invited and contributed presentations from June 20 through 24, 2015. Poster sessions will also be held. The symposium will take place at Toki Messe in Niigata City, the capital of Niigata Prefecture, with population of 800,000. It is located about 350 km north from Tokyo and it takes two hours from Tokyo Station by bullet train on the Joetsu Shinkansen line. Niigata can be also accessed by airplane. It takes one hour from Osaka and Nagoya. Also Niigata has daily flights to/from Seoul, Korea. The early regular registration fee until May 10 2016 is 45,000 JPY (~340EURO). Graduate and undergraduate students are eligible for a reduced early registration fee of 20,000 JPY. After May 1, 2014 a regular registration fee of 50,000 JPY is applied and 25,000 JPY for graduate and undergraduate students. The fee for an accompanying person is 10,000 JPY. The registration fee includes coffee breaks, symposium banquet, lunch, symposium reception and so on. Registration will be completed with payment of the fee. Details for the payment procedures will be displayed on the registration web page. All payments must be made in Japanese yen. Partial support will be available for young scientists including students who are not financially supported from their home institution. This may also apply to senior scientists from developing countries. < POSTER AWARDS> The best poster presentations delivered by young scientists will be awarded prizes on the last day of the symposium. Poster presentations as well as invited and oral talks will be published in the symposium proceedings. Right before the NIC-XIV symposium, the NIC School will be taken place at Niigata University, which is about 10 km from the NIC-XIV symposium site, during 13-17 June 2016. The lectures, presented by internationally recognized experts, will cover the various areas of research in nuclear astrophysics, from theories to experiments and observations.
