仁科アジア賞講演会

４年前から始まった仁科アジア賞は、アジア地区で活躍する若手研究者で基礎物理学分野の優れた研究成果を上げられた方を顕彰する制度です。素粒子論では第１回目の受賞者がShiraz
Minwallaさん、今回４回目の受賞者がSeok Kimさんです。第２，３回目の受賞者は物性実験関係の研究者です。

仁科アジア賞の特色は受賞者を日本に２週間程招いて、大学や研究所で講演をして頂くシステムで、ご自分のお仕事や関連分野の仕事の紹介を通じて日本の研究者、院生等との交流を深めていく事を目指しています。今回は東京大学、大阪大学、京都大学で講演していただくことになりました。

講演は前半は非専門家向けの分かりやすい話、後半は講演者のお仕事に関連した話をして頂く予定です。

講演要旨：
M-theory has M2-branes and M5-branes, which account for many objects
in superstring theory. To understand their dynamics, one should better
understand strongly interacting quantum field theories, or even better
formulate highly unconventional field theories. Recent studies on such
field theories established many surprising properties of M-theory and
their branes. On the other hand, studies of M-theory branes are
gradually changing our fundamental notions of quantum fields, beyond
those traditionally used in particle physics. I will highlight some of
the recent developments on M-theory and quantum field theory, and
their interplay.
