[Abstract]
In the dS/CFT correspondence, bulk states on global spacelike slices
of de Sitter space are dual to (in general) entangled states in the
tensor product of the dual CFT Hilbert space with itself. We show,
using a quasinormal mode basis, that the Euclidean vacuum (for free
scalars in a certain mass range) is a thermofield double state in the
dual CFT description, and that the global de Sitter geometry emerges
from quantum entanglement between two copies of the CFT. Tracing over
one copy of the CFT produces a mixed thermal state describing a single
static causal diamond.

[Title]
Superconducting circuits for quantum technologies

[Abstract]
Interacting many-body systems are found at every level in the
hierarchy of physics. Collective modes in such systems describe their
elementary excitations, and the corresponding quasiparticles or
‘quanta’ often become constituent elements of a many-body system at
the next level in the hierarchy.
Superconducting circuits are many-body systems of interacting
electrons designed and fabricated in the form of electrical circuits
and are playing a major role in the development of modern quantum
technologies based on quantum information science. Collective
excitation modes in the circuits are used as highly coherent
superconducting qubits. With strong nonlinearity due to the Josephson
effect and large dipole moments that allow fast control and readout of
the quantum states, they are considered one of the most promising
platforms for implementing quantum information processors. In
addition, the qubits are coupled to resonators and waveguides to
exploit the properties of those bosonic modes, either localized or
propagating, as a versatile tool for microwave quantum optics and
quantum sensing. The auxiliary modes can also be replaced with other
collective modes found in solid-state physics, e.g., acoustic and
magnetic ones, to form hybrid quantum systems, expanding the realm of
quantum technologies.

[Title]
Creases, corners and caustics: non-smooth features on black hole horizons

[Abstract]
The event horizon of a dynamical black hole is usually a non-smooth
hypersurface. I shall describe the types of non-smooth structure that
can arise on a horizon that is smooth at late time. This includes
creases, corners and caustic points.
I shall discuss ``perestroikas'' of these structures, in which they
undergo a qualitative change at an instant of time. A crease
perestroika gives an exact local description of the event horizon near
the ``instant of merger'' of a generic black hole merger. Other crease
perestroikas describe horizon nucleation or collapse of a hole in a
toroidal horizon. I shall discuss the possibility that creases
contribute to black hole entropy, and the implications of
non-smoothness for higher derivative terms in black hole entropy. This
talk is based on joint work with Maxime Gadioux.

[Title]
Markov-Chain Monte Carlo in Tensor-Network Representation

[Abstract]
The partition functions of various classical and quantum lattice
models can be represented as tensor networks. However, the exact
contraction of a tensor network is generally exponentially expensive,
and some approximation, such as low-rank approximation based on
singular value decomposition, is usually required. Recently, we
proposed a new tensor contraction method based on Monte Carlo
sampling. The proposed method combines the stochastic basis
transformation of tensors with the Markov chain Monte Carlo framework.
It can entirely remove the systematic error due to a finite bond
dimension of the low-rank approximation while keeping the high
accuracy of the tensor-network method. We also demonstrate how the
proposed method works for systems with negative (or complex) weights,
where the standard Markov chain Monte Carlo suffers from a severe sign
problem.

[Title]
Hydrodynamics and Random Matrices

[Abstract]
Many quantum systems exhibit a surprising commonality: their energy
levels are statistically similar to the eigenvalues of a random
Hermitian matrix. This phenomenon is known as random matrix
universality, and it has been observed in systems ranging from nuclei
(Wigner's original idea) to quantum materials to black holes (and
beyond). The wide-ranging applicability of this idea calls for an
equally wide-ranging theory. At the same time, these various physical
systems are not literally described by random matrices, so any theory
should also be able to compute the limitations of random matrix
universality. I will discuss recent work in which we have developed an
effective theory of spectral statistics which connects the statistical
properties of energy levels to the thermalization properties of the
system, with qualitatively different behaviors depending on whether
the system is a fluid or a glass or has a broken symmetry. I will also
discuss surprising deviations from random matrix universality that
occur at late time and that are connected to properties of the Riemann
zeta function and its generalizations.

 Quantum Unclonability and Cryptography

[Abstract]
According to the unclonability principle of quantum information, it is
not possible, in general, to duplicate an unknown quantum state.
Quantum Cryptography benefits from this principle since any attack is
subject to the unclonability principle; this creates a myriad of
opportunities for quantum cryptographers.

In this talk, we will discuss how unclonability permeates quantum
cryptography: from the early findings on quantum money and quantum key
distribution, to recent work on unclonable quantum encryption,
certified deletion, and unclonable software.

Probing strong gravity when gravity waves

[Abstract]
The recent gravitational wave observations of the collision of black
holes and neutron stars by the advanced LIGO and Virgo detectors have
allowed us to pierce into the strong gravity regime, where the
gravitational interaction is simultaneously unfathomably large and
wildly dynamical. These gravitational waves encode a trove of
information about physics that is prime for the taking, including
potential revelations about the validity of Einstein's theory and
constraints of possible deviations in extreme astrophysical
environments. In this talk, I will describe some of the physics
inferences we have made about gravity and what lies beyond from
gravitational wave observations, and the future inferences that will
come next.

[Title]
Electron dynamics at boundaries of quantum many-body systems

[Abstract]
Scattering processes of particles and waves at a boundary provide a
common diagnostic method for investigating unknown properties of bulk
matter. This fact has a much more profound meaning in quantum
many-body physics, where electron correlation is often linked to the
emergence of exotic particles. This talk discusses electron dynamics
at the boundaries of various quantum many-body systems, mainly for the
quantum Hall systems. Coupling and fractionalization of elementary
excitations show up in scattering processes at the boundaries,
highlighting the quantum and correlated nature of electrons in
condensed matter.

[Title]
How is quantum information localized in quantum gravity?

[Abstract]
A careful analysis of the gravitational constraints reveals that
quantum gravity localizes information differently from ordinary
quantum field theories --- an effect called the holography of
information. We review the results obtained so far for asymptotically
flat spacetimes, asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetimes, and
asymptotically de Sitter spacetimes. About some simple states, it is
surprising that these effects are visible in perturbation theory. In a
different regime, we explain the significance of the holography of
information for understanding black-hole evaporation and the
information paradox. We discuss several interesting open questions.
