Title: Dipole symmetry in some quantum models

Abstract:

Motivated by recent experimental advances in tilted optical lattice and of
fracton physics, various quantum models with dipole symmetry in addition to
the usual charge symmetry have emerged at the forefront of theoretical
activities. In this talk I introduce a lattice spin model called the rank-2
toric code (R2TC) whose anyonic excitations possess such dipole symmetry
and discuss various properties of it. A related model of two-dimensional
SPT we call the dipolar cluster state (dCS) is also proposed, and the
connection between the two models through mid-circuit measurement is
revealed. In the second part of the talk, I introduce several
one-dimensional SPT models protected by dipole and higher multipole
symmetries. In recent work, we were able to identify certain non-invertible
symmetry operations associated with each of these modulated SPT models.
