Motivated by this finding, our research group (ONOKORO) has carried out systematic studies using knockout reactions, particularly the (p,pX) reaction, to investigate cluster structures at the nuclear surface. Our measurements indicate that not only α clusters but also light composite particles such as deuterons, tritons, and ³He may appear as cluster degrees of freedom at the nuclear surface. Detailed analyses of α-cluster knockout reactions further suggest that the spatial distribution of α clusters near the nuclear surface can be discussed with only weak dependence on the reaction mechanism. In the first part of this talk, I will present recent experimental results on the emergence of such surface clusters. These phenomena may also point to nuclear many-body correlations beyond the conventional mean-field description.
